Tech Clean California Rebate

Proof of purchase (itemized invoice or receipt).

Installation photos of the heat pump water heater or HVAC system.

Copy of permit pulled for the installation.

Contractor license and installation verification (if applicable).

Income verification (for HEEHRA rebates).

Utility account information for eligibility confirmation.

Must replace an existing gas, propane, or electric water heater with a qualifying heat pump water heater.
Must be a residential customer (single family or multifamily).
For single-family incentives, must live in a participating investor-owned utility service area (e.g., SMUD, PG&E, SCE).
For income-based HEEHRA rebates, total household income must be ≤150% of Area Median Income (AMI).
Participation in a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plan may be required.
Enrollment in a demand response or water heater rewards program may be required (for certain areas).
Central and unitary system incentives apply to multifamily properties only.

Must be installed by a qualified contractor.

Must be installed within the service area of a participating utility provider.

Must replace an existing, non-heat pump system (e.g., gas or electric resistance water heater).

Must meet minimum efficiency and safety standards set by the program.

Installation must be permitted and pass inspection (where applicable).

For multifamily projects, system must serve eligible residential units.

Incentives are limited and subject to funding availability.
Single-family HVAC incentives are currently fully reserved.
HEEHRA rebates are paused due to a federal funding hold (as of Feb 26, 2025).
Cannot be combined with other overlapping state or utility rebates unless stated.
Incentives may vary based on geographic location and utility provider.
One incentive per qualifying installation unless otherwise specified.
